Dr. Sandhu is a Board-Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and graduate from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, where she served as Chief Fellow. Prior to her move back to the Midwest, she completed three years of Adult Psychiatry training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Sandhu is a Detroit-area native, graduating from medical school at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Throughout her years in undergraduate and medical school, her interest in psychiatry began while participating in fMRI-based research investigating the role of emotional processing in children diagnosed with ADHD. More recent interests include understanding the role of social media in mental health. This fall, Dr. Sandhu was accepted as a speaker at the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry national conference on a lively panel discussion and presentation introducing the roles of various social media platforms, highlighting their particular impacts on adolescent behavioral health.

Dr. Sandhu’s approach to outpatient psychiatry is founded in the importance and strength in understanding a child as a whole. Her appreciation of fostering a personal connection with both patients and their families is what makes her most excited to be joining the team at Plena!
